In August 2018, the new One Community Plan network took its first major decision: with over 20 backers so far, the group will launch the new One Community Investor Coop.

The One Community name is still a working title, but hearts and minds are set on creating a collective investment vehicle that will focus on real estate investments, among other potential investment areas.

Four subcommittees were formed on August 9th and tasked with bringing recommendations back to the larger group at its October 11th meeting, in areas such as financial management, governance, marketing and eligible investment areas that may include technology and solar energy. The committees and their chairs include:

Roy James, Finance committee
April Harley, Governance committee
Jean Davis, Project Focus Area committee
Cory Outlaw, Marketing Committee
Judith Turner, Education Committee
The group’s next gathering – on September 13th 2018 – will be a Crash Course in Investment Cooperatives, conducted by Judith Turner, Executive Director of Florida Cooperative Empowered Economic Development Corp. (Florida CEED). The training will be held at 6 p.m. at the Pinellas County Urban League headquarters.

Also in the making is a multi-media marketing campaign called “Race to $100K” to recruit the first group of investors to buy-in to shares costing $700 each.
